MORE DETAILS
You must complete read the online student kit, a lecture and exam, one set of pool sessions, and four total open water checkout dives to become Open Water certified. We conduct our open water dives between mid June and late September in a private quarry in Mitchell, Indiana.
After you finish your academics and pool training, you may dive with us in the quarry, or you may opt for a Referral to finish your four open water dives on your vacation.
An “Open Water Diver” is a diver certified to dive autonomously to a maximum of 60 feet with a certified buddy.
Scuba Schools International (SSI)
“Open Water Diver” is your first rank in your scuba adventure. You are taught the basics – the “What-Ifs” of scuba diving. You are certified to dive Autonomously to a maximum of 60 feet with a dive buddy who also holds an Open Water Diver rating or above.
When you pursue your Deep Diver specialty, you are taught the proper procedures, planning, and equipment recommended/required for dives between 60 feet and 130 feet. 130 feet is the recreational diver depth limit, according to the training of various certification agencies.
