Recreational Diver Ratings

Scuba Schools International recognizes you for earning specialties and diving. Taking specialty courses equips you to dive in new environments and provides you with the framework to master new equipment. These new skills are helpful and fun to learn, and SSI incentivizes your education with recognition ratings.

Specialty Training Recognition Ranks

Open Water Diver: all Open Water Diver training complete (academics and pool sessions) and 4 logged check-out dives complete

Specialty Diver: 12 logged open water dives and 2 SSI specialties completed

Advanced Open Water Diver: 24 logged open water dives and 4 total specialties completed (of which a maximum of 2 non-SSI specialties can count)

Master Diver: 50 logged open water dives, Stress & Rescue specialty or equivalent completed, and 5 total specialties completed (of which a maximum of 2 non-SSI specialties can count)

Logged Dives Recognition Ranks

Century Diver: 100 logged open water dives

Bronze Diver: 200 logged open water dives

Silver Diver: 300 logged open water dives

Gold Diver: 500 logged open water dives

Platinum Diver: 1000 logged open water dives

Lifetime Achievement Recognition Rank

Platinum Pro 5000 Diver: 2500 logged open water dives and a significant contribution to the dive industry OR 5000 logged open water dives, AND 2 nominations from current Platinum Pro 5000 Divers, AND a completed and accepted application (submitted officially to SSI during the application period)

Certified with another training agency? Create your SSI profile and ask us to digitize all your non-SSI cards! You can count TWO non-SSI specialties that you have earned toward your SSI recognition ratings.
