Dear Mark,
Happy New Year! We enter the
New Year full of excitement about the upcoming trips,
new equipment, new and old friends that stopped by over
the holiday season. It only seems like yesterday
that Kim and I purchased the store, but then we
realized that it has been 12 YEARS!
We wish you luck, happiness and prosperity in
2010.
Sincerely,
Mark Brooks Southern Indiana

Equipment Service
What is really
involved in a service? |
|
We get your equipment for service, then later you
stop by and pick up your repaired equipment. We
want to explain what really goes into
servicing your regulator, first. The
regulator is first checked to see how it is performing
in relationship to the manufacture's specs. Then
we totally disassemble the regulator, clean it, rebuild
it to factory specs, using only factory authorized parts
and lube. Then the regulator is reassembled,
torqued to factory specs, then pressures are adjusted to
proper pressures. We then run a breathing machine
on it to check how well the regulator is working, then
we do a leak test on the regulator by dripping it in
water. Next we dry breathe the regulator to make
sure it is air tight. Last, but not least, we fill
out the warranty paperwork to keep your regulator under
the FREE PARTS for life program. One important key
is to keep your warranty in tact, because the cost of
parts from the companies keep going up. They are
now computerized, so they can verify that the service
was done when it was due. Average time spent on a
regulator rebuild is about three hours start to
finish.
With your cylinders, whether you are just getting a
visual or a visual and hydro, your cylinder (tank) is
given a lot of TLC. First, we inspect the outside
of cylinder and check for nicks, cuts, gouges or
anything that would weaken your cylinder, then we remove
the valve and check inside the cylinder for corrosion,
pits, nicks, and anything that would weaken your
cylinder with an inspection light. Then on all
aluminum cylinders we do an eddy current test checking
for neck cracks. The next step is to look at the
thread in the cylinder with an inspection mirror.
Next we check the threads of the valve, we inspect the
pressure relief valve (burst disc). We replace
your large o-ring in the cylinder, lube the threads,
torque it to factory specs, and place a visual
inspection sticker on the cylinder. Average time
spent on a visual is about 40 minutes.
The difference with a hydro is between inspecting
your pressure relief valve and the o-ring, we place your
cylinder into a hydro machine and test your cylinder to
5/3 working pressure or what ever the factory calls
for. This is done by filling your cylinder with
water, placing it in a water jacket, zeroing the
machine, pumping it up to 5/3 and holding it there for
30 seconds, then releasing the pressure and making sure
it returns to within 10% of where it started, then we
stamp a new retester hydro history on the cylinder, dry
it on a cylinder dryer and now complete the
inspection steps above with one addition. We
replace your pressure releif valve. Average time
spent on a hydro is about one
hour. |
